NIA Visits Williamsburg School as Part of NASA Day of Education

Students at Hornsby Middle School in Williamsburg, VA, found out firsthand how NASA uses spectroscopy to learn about remote places in our solar system when National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) Educator, Becky Jaramillo, visited their classroom last week. Becky worked with the science teachers at the school to coordinate a lesson that would kick-off the sixth grade unit on space exploration.  Throughout the day more than 100 students had an opportunity to do some of the NASA eClips™ hands-on activities that complemented their current studies.  The visit supported NASA Langley’s Day of Education initiative and was the first in a series of visits to the school where Becky is working with both students and teachers, demonstrating resources that can be used to enhance integrated student lessons.  Becky will meet with the remaining sixth grade students next week and has follow-up lessons planned for both the math and social studies teachers.
