NIA Supports John Glenn Day at the Virginia Air and Space Center

On Monday, February 20, 2012, National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) Senior Educator, Becky Jaramillo, supported an event at the Virginia Air and Space Center (VASC) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of John Glenn’s historic orbit around Earth.  Becky showcased lunar sample discs and facilitated hands-on activities about orbits while talking with visitors of all ages throughout the day.  As part of ongoing support for VASC, the NIA educator also trained several museum educators on hands-on activities that can be used for floor talks or as part of the student programs at VASC.  One of the NASA eClips™ lessons about Satellite Orbits was a perfect fit for the day to help visitors understand the differences between equatorial and polar orbits.    More than 1000 people attended the event, which got local media coverage from WVEC TV.
